Pretty Lights – Around The Block (feat. Talib Kwelli)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RlcrCRSY4Y

Here’s a dope new track and video from Pretty Lights. It’s the first release from his new album “A Color Map of the Sun,” which during his set at Coachella last night revealed would be released July 2nd. The week after I get home from Electric Forest in Michigan, where he is headlining. I can’t wait to hear the new tunes in his set and for the new album. This man is a production genius.

EDIT: He’s also releasing a documentary about the making of the album. Here’s a little trailer from that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP02rTZte6Y

The Knife – Shaking the Habitual (New album stream)

The Knife finally releases their new album Shaking the Habitual. It’s been since 2006 that they have released one together! Honestly, I can’t even comment on whether I like or not yet, I just got too excited and had to post about it here. I’m streaming it all day at work. I suggest you do the same.  *Fingers crossed* for a tour this summer now. I’ve watched (the very few) live videos they have and their shows looked super weird (in a good way)!

Vitalic – Fade Away (C2C Remix)

I had never even heard of these guys until today, after reading another blog post about this new track. I am blown away by it– upbeat, catchy, electro …with layers and depth. Right up my alley! I will for sure be looking for more from C2C – who are a French Electronic 4-some (as you can see from the photo below).

Baths – Miasma Sky

Here’s a new track by Baths for the rainy and windy East Coast evening. He makes such chill, pretty tunes.

Color Channel – Way Back

My friend Norah sent me this EP by Color Channel to listen to tonight. I especially like this song called “Way Back.” They’ve got a cool electronic/indie/punk sound that’s really different and a nice female vocal. Good shit!

Gramatik – Bluestep

I cannot get enough of Gramatik. He’s making some of the freshest electronic music in the game right now, in my opinion. Here’s his latest track called “Bluestep” – he explained the motivation behind it by saying “I’ve been really into combining the vibes of raw 50′s and 60′s Blues with all kinds of EDM genres and one of the results is Bluestep. It’s a dynamic mixture of Blues and Dubstep, a plethora of screaming guitar, howling vocals and big bass, capturing the raw energies of both music worlds in a hopefully cohesive, possibly outrageous picture.”

Check it out and definitely look into his other music if you enjoy this one. His #digitalfreedom EP is brilliant. He’s on PLM (Pretty Lights Music label), and they give away all their music for free!

Defunk – Jive is Good for You

I just discovered this track while I was downloading new music ( I’m trying to learn how to spin). It’s super fuuuuuunky and unique! Glitch Hop mixed with Funk mixed with Swing. Check out more of Defunk’s tunes from his Soundcloud page. This dude is definitely on the come-up.

Disclosure – White Noise

I have been really into different genres of house music lately. Tech house and deep house especially. Disclosure is a UK garage/deep house duo, and they have been releasing some cool tunes over the past year. This is their newest track. Other tracks you should check out—> “What’s In Your Head” and “Latch” (the latter may sound familiar if you’ve seen the most recent Internet viral video being passed around the EDM heads) “Hitler Finds Out About Deep House.” In any case, I definitely think I’ll go check them out when they come to Philly next month at Union Transfer.

Crystal Castles – Plague

New song from Crystal Castles. It’s leaving me wanting more — the intense, electronic, eerie but sexy Crystal Castles we love.

The Upperclass Men – Vae Victis [Woe To The Vanquished Ones]

The Upperclass Men are a Hip-hop group, out of Brooklyn, led by Hollis Stephenson and Coy Harris. It’s kinda like if The Roots stopped being funky and went punky. Basically, they’re fucking awesome, and they happen to be friends of mine. Check out the impressive first video Vae Victis from a hard-working and up-and-coming group. It’s sick.
